We would love to win with the Hot Potato Bloggers Challenge because…
When we saw the #Hotpotatofoodbloggerschallenge looking for bloggers we were eager to find out more. One of the many things myself and David has in common is our mutual love for cooking and everything food related. Cooking is something we do as a couple and we love trying new combinations and making new dishes by accident such as the one dish we made for this challenge. Food is a great way to connect with people and learn more about people through what they eat. Ok so let’s be honest why we want win , who wouldn’t want to win some extra cash in this economy but why we entered was to showcase our love for cooking and how you can turn a simple potato into a tasty meal.
We only had just over a week for this challenge as we only discovered it close to the end and we had so many ideas for potato dishes but not enough time to do it all so we went with the following 5 dishes.
This was our favorite of all that we came up with and the first time we tried it. It’s a really decadent salad and perfect for the cold winter nights approaching us. It will also make a good side dish for a braai. The Bacon can be substituted for chicken or any other protein that you choose.
We were looking for a dish that could be served tapas style and this is what we came up with. This is a great one for the upcoming sporting games and will sure be a hit with guys.We served this one with two dipping sauces, a mild spring onion one for people like me and one with kick for people like David who loves it hot. Once again the protein can be changed according to preference or be omitted.
If you like us a roast potato is always a hit and that’s why we went with a classic with a twist we roasted baby potatoes instead of the normal garlic baby potatoes. We also found this paired well with the two dipping sauces we made for the Crispy Mash Balls.
This one happened by accident we were going to make mash potato pancakes and when we fried the first one the aroma the filled the kitchen made an idea pop into our head and we used the rest of the “batter” and turned it into this. This is a great way to get the kids to eat mash and also you can add a protein and turn it into a main.
This is a family favorite for us just elevated with a cheese sauce instead of the classic white sauce. This is great for a cold winters night .It combines the classic meat , veg and potatoes all in one dish.
We hope you try out at least one of our recipes and see the many uses there are for potatoes. Potatoes aren’t the enemy and it’s been a staple for many families around the world for years. It’s time to let it shine as it deserves too.
